Amor Vincit Omnia: The Birth of a New Year

Amor Vincit Omnia: The Birth of a New Year

I've been tagged by Vinyl, Angela and YuFen, so I have to tell you 16 things about me.

1- Is my current upload: "Amor Vincit Omnia"; love conquers all.

I believe life is a circle, as one day dies, another begins, as one season dies, another begins, as one year dies, another is born.

All I take from the days, the seasons and the years of my life, is the love I have known and the love I have given.

In my case that's a lot.
All my demons, bad things and sufferings are dead and buried, but love follows me into the next day, the next month, the next season and the next year.
In the end, I hope it will follow me into the next life.

Perhaps in your case it's not a lot.
But I truly believe that even a little bit of love will conquer all, when one learns to exorcise the demons of the past.

2- Truth.

I do not claim to know or speak the truth.
The truth is many things to many people and somewhere in the middle I suppose God will know it all, but I am not He.

I don't tell malignant lies though, that's something I dislike.

What I do say is the product of intuition, inspiration and an overactive imagination.

3- This brings me to my favorite movie: "La Vita e Bella".

In this movie the overactive imagination of a father saves his son from the horrors of a concentration camp, by pretending it's all a game. At the end of the movie his fantasies and stories reveal themselves in front of his son's eyes, and the little boy shouts: "It's true!"

This may not be reality, it may not be a fact, but to me that's the truth I believe in.

5- This is also the way I love my wife.

To me she is my princess, and I knew it from the day I first saw her.
I’m not sure about anything, but I’m sure about her.
A lot of my life didn’t turn out the way I pictured it, but the most important thing did, and so, I think I’m a successful man.

6- I’m not a religious man, but I do have faith.

“Insanity in individuals is something rare, but in groups, parties, nations and epochs it is the rule”, is what Nietzsche said.
I think a lot of religions are insane, except for Buddhism perhaps, but that’s a philosophy, not a religion.
Sure, there’s some good in religion, but this can never undo all the evil that has been done in the past in the name of our bloody earth’s religions.

So when I pray, I go to a place where I can be alone.
When I want to go to church, I take a walk in a forest or along the beach.
And when I need comfort, love or support, I turn to my friends.
That’s where I find my God.

7- I believe in non-violence and passive resistance.

I think that it’s against the rule of Mother Nature to kill your own kind, and I feel very strongly about that.

Killing is wrong, in any shape or form, be it out of aggression or out of self-defense.

Many states and governments claim the right to monopolize violence, and think they have the authority to tell some of their organizations, like the police and the army, that there are “good” reasons to kill other people.

That’s how the greatest evil in our world is done, for “good” reasons.

In fact, there is no “good” reason for violence at all.

War and violence is “the end of all reason”, and as long as we fool ourselves into believing that there is no alternative, that we need weapons to kill our own kind, we are a far cry away from being intelligent life.

Rousseau once said: “Man is like a wolf”, without the monopoly of violence by the state, we would tear each other apart.

I beg to differ, when wolves fight, the victor usually spares the loser, like in most cases, arguments are never fought “to the death”.

Only humans are stupid enough to mass-murder each other.

8- What frightens me most also fascinates me, that’s why I do military model building. Mainly, because I don’t want to forget about all the sacrifice of human life. Many generations before us gave their lives for our freedom, or thought they were fighting for their country. That’s a great sacrifice; it’s also a great waste of human life. Perhaps I’m trying to understand the paradox; perhaps I hope that by remembering, we can prevent it from happening again. I’m not sure, but model building somehow takes the weight of my soul.

9- It’s also the reason I studied penal law. I wanted to know everything that is known about human conflict and what knowledge we have to solve this in a peaceful and just manner. The law may not always function the way we would want it to work, but at least it is some way of an intelligent solution.

10- I’m very passionate about writing.
In a way, this also has to do with the law, because the oldest law known to man is the Torah, or Old Testament, in Hebrew the word means “Law”.
Like in the Koran, the letters in The Bible are holy, and both religions think that “God is in the signs”, like so many other cultures do.
Reading and writing in these cultures is very important, because by reading and writing a person can find his own way to God.
A priest or a minister in our culture is

Thoughts on things.

Thoughts on things.

[18:35] Blake still, she was polite and all that. Smiling she shrugs lightly "How are you feeling Hanni?" shifting ehr weight slightly she flicks her tail at him almost playfully.

[18:37] Ayr Bosatsu Cracks his elbows gently. "I'z awright. Sorry this was such a let down. I guess gage is still waiting on that slacker kid to stop fingerbanging her girl and get her ass over here. Shit." Boots a small rock, his voice sour as he watched it tumble down into the water with a loud splash. "Fuckin..Meh. I hate it when people are so obsessed with that one thing. Broke records. Decadent."

[18:39] Blake can't help but blush slightly at his vulgarity though it wasn't her speaking it, she tended to be a bit modest most of the time though no so much lately. "I don't know why either, I've gone without intimacies for a long time." She smiles slightly "I'm not to worried about finding out what it is, I'm just glad to be out of the city and in comfortable clothing." wiggling her toes in the rocks on the ground she tilts her head "I'm sorry the spar kind of sucked on my end, I didn't take into account aiddy and kept getting distracted - granted it's not her fault either. We'll have to have another when I can fully focus"

[18:43] Ayr Bosatsu SIlence for the longest time, the low sweeping wind howling about the ruins, his ears moving about as he listened to it. Finally, thus he spoke: "No such thing as a sucky spar. Every spar has it's uses for ourselves and for others. If we win or lose or draw we gain something. Insight, understanding, faith or humility. Many things come from sparring, many things available to pick up on and learn." Solemn nod, his voice softening as he took in the breeze again, "You learned something from the spar - one thing you just iterated. You learned much more im sure. Each spar is a unique experience and thus valuable. Even if we lose. Even if we throw the match." Nods again, his body straightening up as he clasped his hands behind his back. "Intimacy. People just need it sometimes. Ayr lived a long life. Knows life without anything. Knows life without existence. Knows life without love. Knows lifetimes of many things."

[18:46] Aidann Beck came out of her daydream, jolting awake. "Wha? Whas going on?"

[18:46] Blake blinks, undeniably shocked as he spoke - long winded and insightful. It's not that she thought he was uneducated or naive, it was just the first time she heard him speak like that. Staring at the back of his head she swished her tail and moved forward, her head nodding slowly in agreement with his words before she spoke. "Why do you speak like that Hanni?"

[18:49] Ayr Bosatsu Shrugs. "Ayr lived a long time. Longer than anyone here. Seen lotta things. Done even more. Lived many lifetimes of prosperity, many of loss. Such is the nature of the world." His head dipped a bit, "I no see why people grow attached anymore. Lost many people," looks back up. "Intimacy in all it's forms is attachment. No point getting attached to anything. Everything dies. People say that People who live short lives. They don't know how bad it is when you as old as Ayr. Not even Ang." Tilts his head to the flaming bin, frowning as the light cast dim shadows over his face. "I speak like this so you understand. So you know what i say is truthful. I no speak lies. Try not to. Too exhausted to even contemplate them. S'why i act how i do. Spent so long being honorable. Being serious. Being a lunatic. Being a lover. Being a husband. Being a son. Now i be a nobody. A nothing."

[18:52] Jhudori Jinn heads up the hill, still murmuring under her mask about Shiroyu. "Dat boys ain't rights....", she sighed out from her mask's filter.

[18:54] Aidann Beck looks over to Ayr, her face softening. "You're still all of those things. Except now you're a father. Still honorable, still everything you said."

[18:54] Aidann Beck waited a moment. "Still Ayr."

[18:54] Blake rfowns as he speaks, her tail twitching while a war raged in her mind - fighting his words with her own views on things "Everyones a something ...." she falls quiet when Jhud appears, not becuase of the girl herself but because Blake didn't really know her and wasn't going to argue infront of someone she didn't know. Inside her mind she was stamping ehr feet like a child in protest, part of her understood his words while the other half of her wanted to slap him upside the ehad and make him realize that it was a useless life trying to be nothing - no matter how many lives you've lived you'll always be something to someone.

[18:58] Ayr Bosatsu Shakes his head. "Iya. People try to be things. Try to be smart or strong. They put themselves in 'roles' Quantify themselves as 'I am this thing.' Ayr no longer do that. Far too tired. Thus i exist, my only goal."

Simple Things

2001 debut full length for dance act described as, 'the British Air', the follow-up to two limited, critically acclaimed EPs. Highlights include the awesome African influenced instrumental passage 'Likufanele', the velvety 'I Have Seen' feat. Mozez & the quiet storm of 'Destiny' feat. Sia. Quango.

Zero 7's ability to conjure beautiful lullabies with all the romance of 1960s French pop (as found on their debut LP, Simple Things) would have made them the toast of soundtrack composers and chill-out connoisseurs the world over. Unfortunately, two Frenchmen beat Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker to the title of "masters of comedown cool," leaving the London duo to be forever called "the British Air." And this is fair; the similarities between Zero 7's lush cinematic soundscapes and those of Air's Moon Safari and the Virgin Suicides score are so strong as to sound almost intentional. Nonetheless, their debut is a truly gorgeous album. It has all the tried and tested atmospheric tricks--bleeps and whooshes layered over plodding Fender Rhodes chords, swathes of strings and tender trumpet parps--but it's Binns and Hardaker's languid grooves and the soft melancholy of their melodies that make dream-state instrumentals "Give It Away" and "Polaris" utterly enchanting. The real power of Simple Things, however, is in its songs. As beautiful as the ambient strains are, when laid beneath the seductive vocals of Australian diva Sia on the ethereal "Destiny" or the heart-breaking "Distractions," their potency becomes apparent. --Dan Gennoe
